You can easily reassign keys, I mean, change the host key. Let me know if
this helps.

I was able to change it successfully to an alternate key on OS X. So I think
we need more detail before we could help you fix this.

Hi,

I think the reason for not being able to change the host key is a small
usability glitch: When you changed the host key in the global settings,
make sure to go to the next input field before you close the dialog.
Otherwise the new setting is lost. I agree that this behavior needs to
be improved.

Just open the dialog and you will see what I mean:
1. Global Settings
2. Input
3. Virtual Machine tab
4. Click on "Right Ctrl" which is the default
5. Press your desired host key
6. Don't press enter but press tab or click into any other field
in the dialog.
7. Click on "ACPI Shutdown"
8. Click on OK.

I was thinking along the same lines... "maybe he does the change but it
doesn't 'stick' because the user closes the window in a way that signals
cancel instead of 'saving' the changes"
