I am using SolusOS v1.2 as Host. SolusOS is based on Debian Stable.

Today, I installed VirtualBox v4.2.6 and the Guest additions and am
successfully running WindowXP with SP3.

There was no trouble creeating Shared Folders, both for my /Home directory
and /media.

I installed Skype and it is working well, other that my usb webcam does not
load.

Investigating this I get the following error message:

Failed to access the USB subsystem.

Could not load the Host USB Proxy Service (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). The service
might not be installed opn the host computer

Details
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x00004005)
Component:

Callee:
IMachine {22781af3-1c96-4126-9edf-67a020e0e858}

I have searched the Forums and although possible solutions are there, none
of which work for me.

Many refer to Windows (various versions) as the Host, which is of no use to
me.
Some appear to apply only to Ubuntu

Is anyone able to help, please?

Do you have the virtualbox extension pack installed on the host?

I don't know about linux, but in solaris, you need to be added to the "vboxuser" group in order to have permission to access USB subsystem. Also, I have heard, there is a bug that affects some systems under some situations (not sure if it's applicable to you): With more than one CPU given to guest, the guest can't access USB. If that is indeed your problem, there is an official bug reported, and you can watch the status of that bug to be informed of resolution when it's available. (Or go back to the latest 3.1.x)
