Julian,

Looks pretty nasty. Wonder what the “Kernel driver" not loading is all about.

For a bench mark, I’m running the latest VBox, 4.3.12 with the extension pack of same version on OSx 10.9.3, WinXP and eCS 2.1 run without a hitch.

Have you tried reinstalling 4.3.10 VBox + extension pack so see if it still works? That should eliminate the rest of your system as being part of the problem. You did install the latest VBox before the extension pack didn’t you?

Thanks Cliff & Chris - reinstalling VB from the 4.3.12 dmg worked. The first time I started it up on an eCS image that had been saved, I got a permanent spinning beach ball in the VBox window, but after force quitting the VM and VBox it worked OK.

Maybe sometime I’ll get up enough courage to figure out which extension pack I should be using. The latest in my Library is 4.3.6 which is the one I installed today [it wasn’t there in TimeMachine yesterday].

Then why in blazes doesn’t the installer offer to install the matching extension pack?

Where do I find the extension packs to download the correct one?

Julian,

Glad you got it going.

The VBox download page has both VBox and the matching extension pack. See: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. Note: There is only one Extension Pack for all systems (On the download page it is in the first line referring to Extension Packs) and the download will have the same version number as the VBox download. For instance the current one downloads as Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.12-93733.vbox-extpack to match the VBox download file VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-OSX.dmg. You have to run the Extension Pack install separately from VBox and preferably after the VBox install.
